Former Tesla Employees Describe Full Self-Driving as Failure

Former Tesla employees report that the Full Self-Driving system fails to brake for animals and children despite public safety claims from the company.

Former employees of Tesla, including a self-driving engineer and nine data labelers, have characterized the company's Full Self-Driving (FSD) mode as a failure and a disaster. Data labelers working in a Utah office reported observing video clips of FSD-equipped vehicles speeding and failing to brake before striking animals or nearly hitting children.

Seven of the nine interviewed data specialists stated they would not ride in a vehicle utilizing FSD. These accounts highlight dangerous shortcomings in the AI software that the employees were tasked with training and annotating.

Despite these internal reports, Tesla executives have continued to publicly promote the safety and autonomous capabilities of the system. The company is currently pushing for fully autonomous capabilities and the integration of FSD technology into robotaxis, including plans for public demonstrations.
