China Reports 140 Million Cross-Border E-commerce Users

Sun Meijun, head of the General Administration of Customs, announced at a press conference in Beijing on July 22, 2026, that 140 million people in China utilized cross-border e-commerce platforms during the first half of the year. The growth is highlighted by a 3.3-fold increase in exports conducted via overseas warehouses, which Sun characterized as a sign of growth in new business models within the sector.

Customs data further detailed the scale of the industry, noting that total cross-border e-commerce imports and exports for 2025 reached 2.84 trillion yuan, or approximately 418.06 billion U.S. dollars. This represents a 4.8 percent year-on-year increase. Additionally, market procurement exports exceeded 800 billion yuan during that same timeframe.
