India Signs BrahMos Missile Deal With Vietnam
India has signed an agreement to supply BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to Vietnam and is finalizing a similar deal with Indonesia.
India has signed an agreement to export the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system to Vietnam. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed the deal during the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, noting that while the agreement was signed—potentially during the previous fiscal year—it had not been publicly announced until now.
The contract is valued at approximately 60 billion rupees (roughly $629 million) and includes coastal defence missile batteries, an initial missile supply, training, and logistics support. The deal follows a visit to Hanoi by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and coincides with the upgrade of the two nations' relationship to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
India is also in the final stages of negotiating a similar missile deal with Indonesia. These exports follow a 2022 agreement with the Philippines, which received its first batch of missiles in 2024 and a second in April 2025. The BrahMos system, developed by the India-Russian joint venture BrahMos Aerospace, is sought by Southeast Asian nations to bolster maritime capabilities and deter incursions in the South China Sea.
These agreements align with India's strategic goal to reach 50,000 crore rupees in annual defence exports by 2030. Singh characterized ASEAN nations as friendly partners with whom India can share advanced technology to build collective security and resilient supply chains.
