Sunday Dare Slams Atiku Abubakar Over Fuel Subsidy Promises

Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication Sunday Dare criticized Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress, for promising to reinstate fuel subsidies as part of his 2027 campaign. Dare characterized the pledge as a "desperate gambit" and "populist illusions" intended for ballot-box validation.

The dispute follows the decision by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove fuel subsidies during his inauguration. While the current administration maintains that these foundational reforms are necessary to address economic headwinds, Atiku has positioned the return of the subsidy as a central pillar of his political platform.

Dare described Atiku's stance as an "insult to the collective intelligence of a resilient populace" and argued that true leadership requires defending difficult reforms rather than pandering to the public.
