Nigeria Unveils SECURE Framework for 2027 Election Security
Minister of Defence Christopher Gwabin Musa introduced the SECURE framework to protect the 2027 general elections through intelligence-led planning and cyber resilience.
Minister of Defence Christopher Gwabin Musa unveiled the SECURE framework to protect the integrity of Nigeria's 2027 general elections during the 8th Blueprint Newspapers Public Lecture in Abuja. The six-point strategy shifts the focus of election security from the physical protection of polling units to addressing modern threats, including cyber intrusion, misinformation, and the exploitation of ethnic and religious divisions.
The SECURE framework comprises Strategic Intelligence Integration, Electoral Cyber Resilience, Civil-Military Coordination, Unified Strategic Communication, a Responsible Information Environment, and Engaged Citizens. Musa warned security agencies that success depends on months of intelligence-led planning and inter-agency coordination rather than last-minute deployments. He reaffirmed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria maintain constitutional neutrality, owing allegiance to the Constitution and the Nigerian people rather than political parties.
Former Governor of Zamfara State AbdulAziz Yari supported the call for stability, warning political parties against using insecurity as a tool to win the hearts of citizens.
