BYD Recalls 183,000 Vehicles Over Brake Pedal Defect

The State Administration for Market Regulation of China has ordered two major electric vehicle recalls following the identification of manufacturing defects. BYD is recalling 183,211 Qin and Tang series vehicles produced between 2014 and 2022. The regulator found that a batch of brake pedal stopper pads may crack or detach over time, which can cause brake lights to remain illuminated even when the pedal is not depressed. This malfunction creates safety risks by potentially misleading other drivers on the road.

BYD will replace the affected components free of charge through its network of authorized dealers. In a separate regulatory action, Nio is recalling 686 Firefly-branded electric vehicles. This recall addresses faulty wiring harnesses in the steering system that could lead to a loss of power steering assistance.
