The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics reported that weekly inflation rose by 0.15 percent, pushing the annual inflation rate to 9.11 percent. The agency's latest report on essential commodities showed price increases for 20 items, while nine decreased and 22 remained unchanged.
Onions experienced the sharpest weekly price jump at 24.68 percent, with gram lentils and chicken also seeing increases. In contrast, petrol recorded the largest weekly decline at 2.35 percent, alongside slight price drops for diesel, tomatoes, and potatoes.
Annual data reveals more severe price surges for specific staples. Tomato and onion prices increased by 143.77 percent and 125.75 percent respectively over the past year, while wheat flour rose by 77.41 percent. Some annual relief was noted in the prices of sugar, chicken, and potatoes, all of which recorded yearly declines.
