Sony Launches RX10 V Superzoom Camera After Nine-Year Gap

Sony announced the RX10 V superzoom bridge camera featuring a stacked sensor, AI-driven autofocus, and 30fps burst shooting for $2,299.99.

Sony Electronics announced the RX10 V on July 9, 2026, reviving its superzoom bridge camera series after a nine-year hiatus. The camera is priced at $2,299.99 in the United States and CAD 2,899.99 in Canada, with shipping expected to begin in August 2026.

The new model retains the 24-600mm f/2.4-4 Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 25x zoom lens and a 20.1-megapixel 1-inch sensor from its predecessor. However, it upgrades to a stacked sensor design and integrates the Bionz XR processor and an AI chipset. These additions enable blackout-free burst shooting at 30fps and a 575-point autofocus system with real-time recognition for humans, animals, insects, and vehicles.

Video capabilities are significantly expanded, now supporting 4K recording at 120fps and 4K 30p livestreaming via a new USB-C terminal. The camera also features S-Log3 and S-Cinetone color options. Physical changes include a redesigned body based on the Alpha mirrorless series, a Quad-VGA OLED electronic viewfinder, and the larger NP-FZ100 battery, which increases shot life by 50%.

To streamline the design, Sony removed the built-in flash, top LCD, and built-in ND filter. Yang Cheng, Vice President of Imaging Solutions, stated that the fifth generation brings features from the Alpha line to make the camera a strong choice for wildlife, birding, and sports photographers.
