DOMA Group Tops Out Newcastle's Tallest Residential Building

Property developer DOMA Group has topped out The Store, a $250 million residential and mixed-use development on Hunter Street in Newcastle West. The project consists of two towers reaching 29 and 27 levels, making it the tallest building in the city. Scheduled for completion in early 2027, the development will feature 352 luxury apartments, 3,500 square metres of commercial and office space, a swimming pool, and a tennis court.

The project represents the final stage of the redevelopment of the former Newcastle and Suburban Co-operative Society site. This process began after the Government of New South Wales purchased the land in 2015 and awarded the redevelopment tender in 2018. Development Director Chris Farrington stated the goal was to honor the site's history since 1898 while creating a project that responds to the city's future.

Lord Mayor Gavin Morris described the rise of the towers as the west end coming back to life. Beyond The Store, DOMA Group was appointed in May to lead the final stage of the $1.6 billion Honeysuckle transformation on Newcastle Harbour. That broader redevelopment will include a luxury hotel, a conference centre, and 1,000 homes.
