Meta Platforms Raises Billions via Debut Euro Bond Sale
Meta Platforms Inc. launched its first euro bond offering to raise 8.25 billion euros for artificial intelligence infrastructure and general corporate purposes.
Meta Platforms Inc. launched its debut euro bond offering on Wednesday, seeking to raise 8.25 billion euros, or approximately $9.23 billion. The six-part issuance features maturities ranging from four to 38 years and follows a $15 billion five-part U.S. dollar bond sale conducted on Tuesday. The company intends to use the proceeds for general corporate purposes and to finance accelerating investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure, including data centers and computing capacity.
This fundraising is part of a larger capital-raising strategy to support long-term generative AI development. Meta has already priced a $25 billion common-stock offering and a $12.5 billion mandatory convertible preferred-share issue, while planning an at-the-market equity program of up to $60 billion. Combined, these equity initiatives could generate up to $97.5 billion in gross proceeds.
To coordinate these efforts, Meta engaged Citigroup and Morgan Stanley to manage preliminary investor calls for multi-tranche debt offerings. The move comes amid a broader borrowing trend among major technology firms and occurs as markets weigh the returns on AI spending and potential regulatory scrutiny following the Democratic sweep in the U.S. midterm elections.
