Election Commission Verifies Voter Rolls Across Three Indian States

The Election Commission of India is executing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) field enumeration exercises across multiple states to sanitize electoral rolls. In Haryana, the process concluded on July 24, revealing that 33.8 lakh voters—16.4% of the electorate—remain unverified. Urban hubs like Gurugram and Faridabad saw the highest numbers of uncollectable entries, with Gurugram recording the state's lowest digitization rate at 70.73% due to migration and limited access to residential complexes.

In Jharkhand, the commission identified 6.62 lakh deceased voters and 8.07 lakh untraceable electors. Despite these gaps, 2.13 crore of the state's 2.64 crore registered voters have submitted digitized forms. Officials there have been directed to finalize all enumeration work by July 29 to prepare for the draft roll publication on August 5.

Meanwhile, the drive in Nashik, Maharashtra, has faced challenges with low engagement. Since June 29, less than 40% of the 51 lakh registered electors have completed the scrutiny and digitization process, and online portal usage remains below 1%. To address this, district officials have established special camps to encourage voters to visit polling booths directly and aim to complete the bulk of the revision work within July.
