CoreWeave Sell-Off Drives OpenAI Valuation Below $1.5 Trillion

OpenAI valuation fell over 4% on Hyperliquid as a sell-off in CoreWeave shares triggered a divergence between the AI leader and rival Anthropic.

A sharp sell-off in shares of GPU infrastructure provider CoreWeave has created a valuation divergence between AI leaders OpenAI and Anthropic on the decentralized exchange Hyperliquid. OpenAI's valuation fell more than 4% within 24 hours, briefly dropping below $1.5 trillion. In contrast, Anthropic's valuation rose 2.4% to exceed $2 trillion.

Market analysts attribute the steeper decline for OpenAI to its deep financial ties with CoreWeave, which included a relationship valued at at least $22 billion as of September 2025. CoreWeave shares reached a one-year low on Thursday, representing a 54% decline over the past twelve months. This downturn stems from investor concerns regarding the company's debt-financing strategy.

Despite the recent divergence, both OpenAI and Anthropic have experienced broader volatility, with each seeing valuations drop approximately 15% from their respective peaks reached last month.
