Transit Agencies Offer Free Rides for November 3 Election

Public and private transportation providers across Ohio, Virginia, and the Quad Cities are offering free or discounted rides to increase voter turnout on November 3.

Public transit agencies and private organizations across several states are providing free or discounted transportation to remove barriers for voters during the November 3 election. In Ohio, WayGO in Wooster is offering free rides for the first time, joining other agencies such as the Akron METRO Regional Transit Authority, Laketran, Geauga Transit, and the Stark Area Regional Transit Authority in providing complimentary fares to polling locations.

Private sector support in Ohio includes a 50% discount from Lyft and rideshare vouchers provided by the Vote to Live Foundation in Cleveland, Akron, and Columbus. In rural areas, the Democratic Party of Carroll County is coordinating volunteer rides to assist residents with limited public transit access.

Similar initiatives are occurring in other regions. In Virginia, the Danville Transit System will offer free rides on all fixed-route and door-to-door services. In the Quad Cities region, Metro, Davenport CitiBus, and Bettendorf Transit have launched a joint effort to provide fare-free rides across all fixed-route, paratransit, and microtransit buses for the entire day. These services are available to all passengers regardless of their destination and do not require proof of voter registration.
