Nigeria Partners With US Initiative to Combat Child Malnutrition

The Nigerian government partnered with Operation End Starvation to deploy part of a $1 billion fund targeting acute child malnutrition across Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has partnered with Operation End Starvation, a U.S.-based nonprofit initiative of the Eleanor Crook Foundation, to combat hunger and acute child malnutrition. The collaboration aims to prevent starvation-related deaths and improve nutritional outcomes for vulnerable children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.

Chief Executive Officer Williams Holdsworth Moore announced plans to mobilize over $1 billion annually over the next two years to fight starvation across Sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative is supported by global philanthropists and a macro grant from the United States government, with the United States Department of State designating Nigeria as a priority site for these investments.

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Muhammad Ali Pate stated that Nigeria is working to reduce 6.4 million cases of acute child malnutrition through frameworks such as the National Community Food Bank Programme. First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu welcomed the delegation in Abuja, guaranteeing that the resources provided through the alliance would be deployed transparently and effectively.
