Olix Founder James Dacombe Becomes Europe's Youngest Self-Made Billionaire

James Dacombe became Europe's youngest self-made billionaire after his chipmaking company, Olix, reached a valuation of $3.3 billion.

James Dacombe, the 25-year-old founder of Olix, has become the youngest self-made billionaire in Europe. The milestone follows a surge in the valuation of Olix, a London-based chipmaking company that tripled its value to $3.3 billion in early August 2026.

The company recently raised $312 million from a group of investors including Arm, Fundomo, Hudson River Trading, Reed Hastings, and the Sovereign AI fund of the United Kingdom government. Dacombe holds approximately 30% of Olix and a 12% stake in CoMind, a brain monitoring startup he founded in 2017.

Olix develops photonic chips designed for specific stages of AI model inference to lower latency and power consumption, with plans to deliver these chips to customers by the second half of 2027. This growth occurs alongside a global trend of AI-driven wealth creation, highlighted by the $60 billion acquisition of Cursor by Space Exploration Technologies Corp. and valuation increases for startups like Lovable.
