Russia Warns US and Turkey Over ATACMS Transfer to Ukraine

The Government of Russia warned the United States and Turkey that the transfer of US-made weapons to Ukraine would undermine mutual trust and prolong the conflict. The warning follows reports that Washington is preparing to authorize a $280 million consignment from Turkish stockpiles to Ukraine, including 70 ATACMS ballistic missiles, 12 Multiple Launch Rocket System launchers, and tens of thousands of cluster munitions.

Because the weaponry is US-made, the transfer requires authorization from the US Congress, which has 15 calendar days to approve the move. The United States Department of State has reportedly signaled its readiness to approve the resale. If authorized, the weapons would be delivered via American, Turkish, and Bulgarian military and logistics companies.

Russian officials characterized the potential move as opening a "Pandora's box." Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that the transfer would cause serious damage to bilateral relations with Washington and Ankara. The Russian government has formally demanded explanations from both nations, arguing that supplying more weapons increases casualties and contradicts peacemaking rhetoric.
