Governor Nwifuru Orders Local Chairmen to Deal Mercilessly With Opposition

Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru directed the newly sworn-in chairmen of the state's 13 local government areas to deal "mercilessly" with opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking during an inauguration ceremony at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki, Nwifuru instructed the officials to strengthen the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and mobilize grassroots support to ensure the party wins all available National Assembly seats in the state.

The governor explicitly linked the tenure of the local chairmen to their political performance. He warned that any chairman who fails to deliver their local government area to the APC or fails to meet governance expectations risks removal from office. Nwifuru stated that he would closely monitor their actions, noting that their behavior and attitude are under public scrutiny.

While demanding a hardline approach toward opposition parties, Nwifuru also urged the officials to reconcile with former political opponents to avoid inheriting enemies. He emphasized that maintaining a positive public image is essential for the officials to avoid ending their political careers prematurely.
