India Pharmaceutical Exports to UK Projected to Hit $981 Million
The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India projects a 8.66% increase in pharmaceutical exports to the UK for the 2026-27 financial year.
The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) projects that pharmaceutical exports to the United Kingdom will reach $981.16 million in the 2026-27 financial year, representing an 8.66% increase. This growth follows the implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which removes tariffs on nearly all products.
Early data for the 2026-27 fiscal year shows exports for April and May rose 4.15% year-on-year to $152.14 million. This builds on a total of $902.96 million in exports from the previous fiscal year. As of FY2025-26, India maintains a trade surplus with the UK of approximately $767.49 million, with drug formulations and biologicals comprising 89.54% of total exports.
Pharmexcil leadership indicates the agreement will improve the competitiveness of Indian generic medicines and attract foreign direct investment. The council suggests that the removal of tariffs and improved regulatory cooperation will strengthen pharmaceutical supply chains and reinforce India's role as a global provider of affordable medicine.
