China Launches Open-Weight AI Models and Global Cooperation Body

Moonshot AI and Alibaba Group released massive open-weight artificial intelligence models on July 28, 2026, to challenge the proprietary approach of Western technology leaders and bridge the global intelligence gap. While the models demonstrate technological advancement, analysts note that OpenAI and Anthropic maintain advantages through superior cloud infrastructure and stable enterprise ecosystems.

To institutionalize this shift toward inclusive AI governance, 29 nations signed an agreement in Shanghai to establish the World AI Cooperation Organization. The Government of China supported this initiative by pledging 5,000 training slots for developing countries, deploying the Mazu weather warning system in 30 nations, and planning AI application cooperation centers with the African Union and ASEAN over the next five years.
