Militant Attacks Kill 19 Across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province

A series of militant strikes across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province killed at least 19 people on July 24, 2026, including soldiers, police, and civilians. The deadliest incident occurred in the Tank district, where Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for a suicide attack. Militants rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a joint military and police checkpoint after failing to breach the perimeter. The blast killed 15 people—including 12 soldiers and two policemen—while security forces killed 12 militants during the engagement.

Concurrent attacks targeted other regions of the province. In the Kohat district, 14 to 15 heavily armed militants assaulted customs and excise personnel near a toll plaza on the Indus Highway. The attackers killed two officials, injured three others, and stole approximately 2 million Pakistani rupees before fleeing. In the Kurram district, militants used a quadcopter to strike a military post, killing two soldiers instantly and seriously injuring a third.

These incidents occur amid escalating militancy in northwest Pakistan and diplomatic friction with Afghanistan. Pakistan alleges that militants utilize Afghan soil for operational planning, a claim the Afghan government denies, asserting that the violence is a domestic Pakistani issue.
