Nigerian House of Representatives Demands INEC 2027 Election Report
The Nigerian House of Representatives ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to provide a comprehensive assessment of its preparedness for the 2027 general elections.
The Nigerian House of Representatives resolved to invite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide a comprehensive assessment of its readiness for the 2027 general elections. Following a motion sponsored by Mansur Manu Soro and Abdussamad Dasuki, the commission must brief a relevant committee within seven legislative days.
Lawmakers cited operational failures during the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, specifically noting network challenges, inadequate equipment, and limited personnel. They warned that these deficiencies could restrict eligible voters and undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
The requested report must detail voter registration, PVC production, logistics, technology deployment, security, and budgetary appropriations. The House stated that lessons from the recent Ekiti State governorship election should inform these preparations to ensure the 2027 polls are free, fair, and peaceful.
