Eli Lilly Hits $1 Trillion Market Cap After Strong Q2

Eli Lilly and Company reached a $1 trillion market capitalization following a 48% revenue surge driven by its diabetes and weight-loss drug portfolio.

Eli Lilly and Company became the first healthcare company to reach a $1 trillion market capitalization, fueled by the commercial success of its incretin franchise. The company reported second-quarter revenue of $22.97 billion, a 47.67% year-over-year increase, with earnings per share of $8.38 beating consensus estimates by 27.27%.

Revenue gains were primarily driven by Mounjaro and Zepbound, which accounted for nearly 65% of total revenue. While volume growth reached 60%, the company experienced a 13% decline in realized prices. Management warned that net prices will continue to fall as access to CVS opens. Based on these results, the company raised its full-year revenue guidance to between $85.0 billion and $87.0 billion.

To sustain growth and mitigate competition from Novo Nordisk's oral obesity launches and generic semaglutide, the company is diversifying its pipeline through more than 10 acquisitions this year. Development continues on retatrutide, a next-generation weight-loss drug that showed a mean weight loss of 28.3% in phase 3 studies, with a Biologics License Application submission planned for the first quarter of 2027. The company is also expanding into treatments for eczema and Alzheimer's disease.
