Virginia Schedules Delayed Primary Elections for August 4
Virginia voters will cast ballots on August 4 for U.S. Senate and House seats after a court voided a congressional redistricting referendum.
The Virginia State Board of Elections has scheduled primary elections for August 4, 2026, to select nominees for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, and various local offices. The vote was delayed from its traditional June date after a court voided a referendum intended to redraw the state's congressional districts.
The upcoming contests include a Republican primary to challenge incumbent Senator Mark Warner, as well as key races in the 5th and 7th Congressional Districts. To support voter participation following the scheduling shift, The Virginian-Pilot and Daily Press have released a 2026 Primary Election Guide featuring candidate responses.
