President Prabowo Leads Indonesia's 81st Independence Day Celebrations

President Prabowo Subianto led the national celebrations for Indonesia's 81st Independence Day on August 17, 2026, under the theme "Sovereign, Just and Prosperous Indonesia." In Jakarta, the festivities included a procession of the heirloom national flag and the original proclamation text from the National Monument to Merdeka Palace, where Prabowo read the 1945 Proclamation of Independence. The event featured an aerial display of 81 aircraft, marking the public debut of newly acquired Rafale fighter jets. During the ceremony, Prabowo led prayers for victims of natural disasters in Sumatra and East Nusa Tenggara, specifically citing a deadly earthquake in Flores.
