Jairam Ramesh Claims Opposition Victories After Parliament Session

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh declared five major opposition victories following the conclusion of the Parliament's Monsoon session on August 13, 2026. Ramesh asserted that the government lacks the two-thirds majority required to pass a proposed delimitation Bill, claiming the government failed in its attempts to engineer splits within opposition parties such as the Trinamool Congress and Shiv Sena to secure those numbers.

Beyond the delimitation Bill, Ramesh identified the deferment of four other legislative proposals to the Winter Session as successes. These include the One Nation, One Election Bill, the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan (VBSA) Bill, the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill regarding the removal of high-ranking officials, and changes to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

Regarding the FCRA Bill, Ramesh attributed its deferment to pressure from various organizations and an intervention by the US Vice President. This outcome occurred despite reports that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had remained firm about bringing the legislation before Parliament.
