General Motors Recalls 14,540 Cadillac Vistiq SUVs Over Seat Defect

General Motors is recalling 14,540 Cadillac Vistiq SUVs from 2026 and 2027 model years because defective third-row seats may trap children or infants.

General Motors is recalling 14,540 Cadillac Vistiq all-electric SUVs from the 2026 and 2027 model years due to a defect in the power-folding third-row seats. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that the seatbacks may fail to automatically reverse operation when encountering an obstruction, creating a risk that occupants, particularly children or infants, could become trapped.

The recall follows an internal investigation triggered by the Speak Up For Safety program and a fatal incident involving similar seats in a Hyundai Palisade. GM engineers identified the fault in March 2026, using tests with 33- to 40-pound boxes that became stuck during the folding process. The defective modules were manufactured by Yanfeng Seating, a subsidiary of SAIC Motor Corporation Limited. While GM has received six complaints regarding the issue, no injuries have been reported.

As an interim measure, Cadillac has paused shipments of 2027 models and dealers will disable the power-stow feature for affected vehicles. GM will replace the modules with updated versions that automatically return the seatback to an upright position upon sensing resistance once replacement parts become available. Notification mailings to owners are scheduled to begin on August 3, 2026.
