Elon Musk claims Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian will lose his job after the airline chose Amazon's Leo satellite service over SpaceX's Starlink.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk predicted that Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian will lose his job following the airline's decision to partner with Amazon for in-flight Wi-Fi. The dispute stems from a multi-year agreement announced March 31, in which Delta committed to installing Amazon's Leo satellite internet service on 500 aircraft starting in 2028.
Ed Bastian defended the selection, stating Amazon provided the fastest and most cost-effective technology available, while offering deeper integration with gaming and retail services. Musk countered that the partnership with SpaceX failed because Delta insisted on using a branded portal, a condition he refused to accept.
The conflict highlights a growing divide in the aviation industry. While United Airlines has already equipped hundreds of planes with Starlink, Delta is betting on a service that is not expected to enter beta testing until 2027. SpaceX currently maintains a significant infrastructure advantage with over 10,000 satellites in orbit, compared to approximately 400 operated by Amazon.
