Ukrainian Children Attacked in Bydgoszcz Over Language
Polish police are investigating a racially motivated assault on two Ukrainian children who were targeted for speaking their native language in Bydgoszcz.
Two Ukrainian children, a 14-year-old girl and her 12-year-old brother, were victims of a racially motivated assault in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The Consulate General of Ukraine in Gdansk reported that a man and a woman targeted the siblings for speaking Ukrainian, using obscene language and threats during the encounter.
During the attack, the assailants twisted one child's arm and smashed a drone, throwing fragments of the device at the boy and causing scratches. Polish police confirmed they have received a criminal complaint regarding the incident.
The assault occurs as hate crimes against Ukrainians in Poland reportedly increased by 30% during the first half of 2026. This trend coincides with rising diplomatic tensions between Poland and Ukraine over the veneration of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.
