Mandaviya Opens 15th BRICS Trade Union Forum in Hyderabad
Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated the 15th BRICS Trade Union Forum, reporting that India's social protection coverage now exceeds one billion citizens.
Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated the 15th BRICS Trade Union Forum (TUF) Summit 2026 in Hyderabad on July 14. During the event, Mandaviya announced that India's social protection coverage expanded from 19% in 2015 to 64.3% in 2025, with preliminary 2026 estimates indicating coverage now exceeds one billion citizens.
Mandaviya reported the creation of 170 million jobs over the last decade and outlined the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana's goal to generate 35 million formal sector jobs within two years. He credited digital infrastructure for these gains, specifically citing the e-SHRAM portal, which has 317 million registered unorganised workers, as well as the efforts of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation and Employees' State Insurance Corporation.
As part of the visit, Mandaviya also inaugurated a new OPD Block at the ESIC Hospital in Sanathnagar, Telangana. The facility was completed at a cost of Rs. 211.13 crores.
