TVK Joins INDIA Bloc Protest Demanding CEC Resignation
The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam joined a Congress-led protest in Chennai demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged voter list irregularities.
The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) joined a Congress-led INDIA bloc protest in Chennai on October 15, 2026, to demand the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Protect Democracy agitation, led by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief and MP B Manickam Tagore, focused on alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists, which protesters characterized as a murder of democracy.
This demonstration marked the first official agitation for the TVK since joining the INDIA bloc on October 3. The protest included representatives from seven constituent parties, including the VCK and MDMK. During the event, Congress MP Vijay Vasanth accused the Election Commission of working on behalf of the BJP and stated that the BJP government does not listen to the people's voice.
The mobilization occurred as a rift widened between the Indian National Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). The DMK recently exited the INDIA bloc, accusing Congress leaders of betrayal and acting as a sleeper cell for another party, and subsequently distanced itself from the anti-CEC agitations.
