Court Rejects Novo Nordisk Bid to Block Eli Lilly Ads

Novo Nordisk failed to secure a court order blocking Eli Lilly from running advertisements claiming its obesity and diabetes drugs are more powerful.

A U.S. federal court rejected a request by Novo Nordisk A/S to temporarily block Eli Lilly & Co. from running advertisements that claim its obesity and diabetes medications are more powerful than those of its competitor.

U.S. District Judge Zahid Quraishi ruled on Monday that Eli Lilly & Co. may continue its advertising campaign while the broader lawsuit, originally filed by Novo Nordisk in July, proceeds. The judge described the request for a preliminary injunction as "less than persuasive," stating that Novo Nordisk failed to prove the advertisements caused irreparable harm.

The legal dispute comes as Novo Nordisk seeks to regain market share in the highly competitive obesity and diabetes medication sectors.
