CNN Poll Shows Democratic Socialists Gaining Influence in U.S. Politics

A CNN poll reveals one-third of Democrats now identify as democratic socialists, correlating with recent electoral victories for left-wing candidates across several states.

A poll conducted by Cable News Network, Inc. and Social Science Research Solutions, Inc. indicates that approximately one-third of Democrats and Democratic-leaning adults now identify as democratic socialists. This group is generally younger, more likely to be white, and exhibits higher voter motivation than non-socialist members of the party.

The data aligns with a series of electoral shifts. Zohran Mamdani recently won the New York City mayoral race, while democratic socialist candidate Francesca Hong currently leads the Democratic gubernatorial primary in Wisconsin. Additionally, incumbent House Representatives Adriano Espaillat in New York and Diana DeGette in Colorado were defeated.

Democratic socialists within the party are more likely to support a transition toward left-wing policies and a reduction in U.S. aid to Israel. While these voters maintain a favorable view of the Democratic Party overall, they express a stronger preference for replacing current party leadership with younger candidates.
