Major Banks Advise Reducing Exposure to Technology Sector
RBC Capital Markets and Deutsche Bank warn investors to reduce tech exposure as semiconductor earnings sentiment slows and AI spending risks grow.
Several major financial institutions are advising investors to reduce their exposure to the technology sector, citing a decline in chip stocks and diminishing returns on artificial intelligence investments. RBC Capital Markets downgraded the sector from overweight to market weight on Wednesday, suggesting health care as a more stable alternative.
Analysts at RBC noted a deceleration in upward earnings per share estimate revisions for the semiconductor and semi-equipment industry, viewing this as a negative signal for future performance. This follows a warning from Deutsche Bank, which stated that the rotation into tech stocks since July has run its course and the risk-reward profile is no longer favorable.
Broader market concerns include warnings from Jefferies regarding potential capital destruction resulting from massive AI capital expenditures. Additionally, investor Paul Tudor Jones compared current market conditions to the period preceding the dot-com bubble, predicting that the stock market will face significant challenges by 2027.
