Dow Surges 556 Points as Treasury Yields Hit Three-Week Low

U.S. stocks recovered from an AI-driven slump on October 15, led by a Dow Jones surge despite a sharp spike in wholesale inflation.

U.S. stock indexes closed higher on October 15, 2026, recovering from early losses triggered by a global sell-off in artificial intelligence stocks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average led the rally, jumping 556.21 points, or 1.1%, to close at 52,177.69, its highest level in a month. The S&P 500 rose 0.3% to 7,744.06, while the Nasdaq Composite edged up 0.1% to 26,713.03.

The recovery was supported by a steep decline in Treasury yields, with the 10-year note falling to a three-week low of approximately 5.09%. This retreat occurred despite a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showing the September Producer Price Index surged 1.3%, the highest increase in over four years and well above the 0.5% to 0.6% forecast. David Russell of TradeStation noted that this data confirms inflation is worsening as energy prices remain high.

Volatility persisted in the tech sector due to concerns over AI investment sustainability and slower revenue growth at Anthropic. Heavyweights like Nvidia and TSMC faced losses, while CoreWeave experienced extreme swings. Broad market gains were instead driven by strong corporate earnings from Kimberly-Clark, BNY, and Marsh & McLennan. Internationally, the AI slump hit Asia hard, with South Korea's Kospi plummeting 7.6% and Japan's Nikkei 225 falling 4.9%, while European markets generally trended upward.
