Mercedes-AMG Unveils Electric CLA 45 at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Mercedes-AMG revealed the electric CLA 45 4Matic+, an entry-level performance model featuring axial flux motors and AI-integrated interiors, with deliveries starting in 2027.

Mercedes-AMG unveiled the electric CLA 45 4Matic+ at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, marking the transition of its entry-level performance model from petrol to electric power. The vehicle is available as a saloon and a Shooting Brake, both utilizing three axial flux motors from British firm Yasa to produce between 671 and 680 horsepower and up to 1,298 lb-ft of torque.

The electric powertrain enables acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 2.7 to 3 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph that can reach 168 mph via the AMG Dynamic Plus package. The cars feature a 94kWh battery with 800V architecture, providing a range of 416 miles for the saloon and 398 miles for the Shooting Brake.

Technological highlights include the fourth-generation MBUX system with integrated AI from ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini. To maintain a traditional performance feel, the AMGFORCE S+ mode simulates engine sounds and gear changes using over 1,600 recordings of a petrol AMG A 45 S. Deliveries for the new models are expected to begin in 2027.
