Louisville Ladder Recalls 1.77 Million Attic Stairway Ladders

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of approximately 1.77 million attic stairway ladders sold in the United States and 13,054 units sold in Canada. The recall affects aluminum- and wood-frame ladders equipped with gas struts sold under the Louisville, Featherlite, Lite, and Century brands.

The recall stems from a defect where critical spreader bolts can break during use, creating a fall hazard. The manufacturer has received 11 reports of bolt failures, one of which resulted in injuries to a consumer's neck, head, and back. The affected products were sold between November 2012 and July 2026 through various retailers, including Amazon, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Do It Best, and Orgill.

Consumers are urged to stop using the ladders immediately. The company is providing free repair kits containing replacement bolts, washers, and lock nuts to affected users who register via a dedicated recall website.
