Common Sense Media Report Labels ChatGPT for Teens Risky
Common Sense Media reports that OpenAI's ChatGPT for Teens fails to reliably alert parents or provide crisis resources during high-risk conversations.
Common Sense Media released a report Wednesday stating that OpenAI's ChatGPT for Teens is too risky for children. The findings come from the nonprofit's Youth AI Safety Institute, which tested the chatbot rolled out in August as the default for users aged 13 to 17.
The report found that the chatbot failed to reliably alert parents when teen accounts engaged in conversations regarding eating disorders, self-harm, or suicide. Additionally, the institute determined that the tool did not consistently suggest crisis hotlines or professional help when users discussed these high-risk topics.
