SoftBank to Invest $50 Billion in Malaysia AI Infrastructure

Masayoshi Son plans to invest $50 billion in Malaysia's AI and data center infrastructure to help the country become an AI nation by 2030.

Masayoshi Son, founder and CEO of SoftBank Group, plans to invest $50 billion in technology infrastructure across Malaysia. The investment focuses on artificial intelligence, data centers, and emerging technologies, with projects targeted for Sarawak, Kuching, and peninsular Malaysia.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the plan following a video conference with Son. The Malaysian government intends to use the capital to create high-skilled jobs for youth and advance a national goal to become an AI nation by 2030.

This move is part of a broader global strategy by SoftBank Group to expand AI infrastructure, which already includes large-scale projects in Japan, France, and Ohio. Malaysia has recently emerged as a regional hub for data centers, having already attracted significant investments from Amazon, Google, and Microsoft.
