Uddhav Thackeray Calls for Regime Change Amid Delhi Protests
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and other opposition leaders called for a regime change following alleged police brutality at protests in New Delhi.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and leader Sanjay Raut have backed calls for a regime change in India, accusing the BJP-led central government of suppressing voting and protest rights. The political dispute follows protests in New Delhi organized by the Cockroach Janta Party and other groups, where Thackeray alleged that police assaulted youth and women.
The opposition's demands center on alleged electoral irregularities and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan supported the movement, asserting that seeking regime change is a democratic right and that creating disaffection against the government is not a criminal offense.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis rejected these claims, accusing the opposition of attempting to topple the government outside the democratic process. Fadnavis argued that the calls for regime change stem from the opposition's inability to win power through elections.
