The documents show Fauci attended dinners at the home of CNN's Jake Tapper, an arrangement Fauci described as "friendship building." Reports further allege that Tapper asked Fauci to suggest challenging questions for an interview with a Trump administration official regarding COVID-19 policy.

Critics argue these interactions demonstrate collusion between the media and the Democratic Party to influence political outcomes and suppress public health policy debates. The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board noted that while journalistic friendships are common, the media's idolatry of Fauci served to shut off debate over pandemic policy and provided a means to attack President Trump during an election year. Former CNN journalist Brian Stelter dismissed similar past allegations of collusion between journalists and the Clinton campaign as "ludicrous and it's damaging."
