Seriake Dickson Defends NDC Registration and Seeks Opposition Coalition

National Leader Seriake Dickson declared that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) remains legally recognized and fully prepared to contest the 2027 general elections. This assertion follows a Federal High Court ruling in Lokoja that nullified a December 2025 order requiring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the party. Dickson dismissed the judgment as irregular, arguing the court did not explicitly order deregistration, and confirmed the party has filed for a stay of execution and an appeal.

During a strategic meeting in Abuja with vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party leadership focused on unity and judicial resilience. Kwankwaso described the legal battle as a temporary setback and urged supporters to remain calm. In separate media appearances, Dickson predicted a massive defeat for President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing widespread public dissatisfaction with the government's performance.

To strengthen the opposition, Dickson announced the NDC is open to coalition talks with like-minded parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), provided such alliances back NDC candidates. These negotiations are expected to begin after parties finalize their nomination processes. The NDC's presidential ticket is currently held by Peter Obi, who joined the party following disputes within the ADC.
