Volkswagen and Fiat Chrysler Recall Thousands of Vehicles in Canada
Volkswagen and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles are recalling thousands of SUVs in Canada due to steering defects, software glitches, and loose roof components.
Automotive manufacturers Volkswagen Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have issued multiple recalls for thousands of vehicles in Canada due to safety defects. Volkswagen is recalling 2.86 million vehicles globally, including 35,300 in Canada, because a steering screw can degrade when exposed to road salt and environmental conditions. Affected Canadian models include the 2018 Atlas and Tiguan. Additionally, Volkswagen is recalling 10,435 2025 Tiguans due to a body control module software defect that may cause the ignition to switch off while driving, potentially disabling power to the wheels and warning lights.
Separately, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling 6,537 Jeep Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L models from 2022 to 2026. The company identified improperly tightened pivot bolts securing roof crossbars, which could cause the bars to detach and create road hazards.
Volkswagen and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will notify affected owners by mail. Volkswagen will provide corrosion-resistant screws for the steering issue and software updates for the Tiguans at no cost to owners. Germany's KBA motor vehicle agency and Volkswagen Canada report no known accidents, injuries, or property damage related to the steering defect.
