Easy Car Sales Rejects Claims EV Chargers Strain Bahamas Grid

The co-founders of Easy Car Sales, Pia Farmer and John Farmer, have rejected claims by Bahamas Grid Company executives that electric vehicle (EV) chargers are straining the electricity grid in New Providence. This dispute follows a press conference at the Office of the Prime Minister where Bahamas Grid Company CEO Dareo McKenzie described EV chargers as a substantial drain that remains unseen to system operators.

The Farmers argued that the approximately 2,500 EVs in the Bahamas have a negligible impact on national demand when compared to data centers and mega resorts. They asserted that grid instability is actually a legacy issue resulting from poor planning and a lack of continual investment in burgeoning demand rather than the adoption of electrical mobility.

Additionally, the Farmers challenged the suggestion that residential chargers require government authorization or should be reported to authorities. They urged the government and utility companies to align infrastructure planning with national climate commitments, which aim for 80% of new vehicle sales to be electric or hybrid by 2035.
