EBRD Provides €250 Million Green Loan to NEPI Rockcastle

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development provided a €250 million green loan to NEPI Rockcastle to finance sustainable retail real estate across Europe.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development provided a €250 million bilateral green loan to NE Property BV, a subsidiary of NEPI Rockcastle. The eight-year senior unsecured loan, which runs until 2034, is designated for sustainable real estate investments and the expansion of green retail assets across Central, Southern, and Eastern Europe, with a primary focus on Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, and Hungary.

NEPI Rockcastle will use the funds to implement the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard and improve energy efficiency across its portfolio. The financing aligns with the Paris Agreement and the company's own Green Finance Framework to target low-carbon buildings. Beyond physical infrastructure, the agreement funds a multi-year training program for more than 300 employees to develop skills in AI, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and environmental management.

Chief Financial Officer Eliza Predoiu stated that the financing provides long-term capital and headroom for continued investment in retail destinations. The loan allows the company to diversify its funding sources and extend its debt maturity while accelerating decarbonization efforts in the real estate sector.
