China Deploys PLA Aircraft and Vessels Around Taiwan
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence detected multiple Chinese military aircraft and naval vessels operating around the island on August 8 and 9, 2026.
The Ministry of National Defence of Taiwan detected a series of Chinese military incursions around the territory on August 8 and 9, 2026. On Saturday, August 8, the ministry identified 14 aircraft sorties, 11 of which crossed the median line, along with six navy vessels and eight official ships.
Activity continued into Sunday, August 9. Up until 6 a.m., the ministry reported four aircraft sorties, six navy vessels, and nine official ships. Two of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern and southwestern Air Defence Identification Zone.
The Republic of China Armed Forces monitored and responded to these movements. These operations align with China's efforts to increase military intensity around the island to assert its claim that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, while Taiwan continues to maintain its independent government and military.
