Republican Nick Begich III Leads Alaska House Race
Republican Representative Nick Begich III holds a strong lead in Alaska's lone House seat race following the November 3 election.
Republican U.S. Representative Nick Begich III holds a strong lead in the race for Alaska's lone House seat following the November 3 election. With approximately 78% of precincts reporting, Begich has 49.9% of the vote, while Independent candidate Bill Hill follows with 40.1%.
Begich campaigned on resource development and received an endorsement from President Donald Trump. Bill Hill, a commercial fisherman and retired educator endorsed by the Alaska Democratic Party, focused his campaign on the rising cost of fuel and essential goods. Third-place candidate Eric Hafner, a federal inmate in New York with no known ties to Alaska, holds 7.2% of the vote.
Because Alaska uses a ranked-choice voting system, Begich must secure over 50% of the first-choice votes to win outright. If he fails to reach this threshold, the race will proceed to ranked-choice tabulation on November 18.
