Israeli President Isaac Herzog Visits Hungary to Strengthen Ties
President Isaac Herzog visited Budapest to meet with Prime Minister Peter Magyar and President Andras Baka to maintain bilateral relations following Hungary's leadership change.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog traveled to Budapest on Tuesday for a 12-hour diplomatic visit, the first high-level engagement between the two nations since the election defeat of Viktor Orbán. Herzog met with Hungarian President Andras Baka at Sándor Palace and Prime Minister Peter Magyar to discuss regional security, bilateral cooperation, and Israel's relations with the European Union.
During the visit, Herzog praised Hungary as a friend and ally in the fight against terror and thanked the government for its zero-tolerance policy toward antisemitism. President Baka described the relationship as cordial and stable, though he emphasized that international humanitarian law must be respected and aid must reach Gaza without interruption. Prime Minister Magyar, whose Tisza party recently reversed Orbán's planned withdrawal from the International Criminal Court, accepted an invitation to visit Israel.
Beyond government meetings, Herzog addressed the international Voice of the People conference and met with leaders of Hungary's Jewish community to strengthen ties between Israeli and Diaspora youth.
