FSSAI Suspends Bakery License and Orders Spice Recall

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India suspended a bakery's license for hygiene lapses and ordered a recall of contaminated cumin powder.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India took enforcement actions against two food businesses on October 4 following safety and hygiene violations. The regulator suspended the license of Creative Bakers and Confectioners Private Limited, a manufacturer based in West Bengal, after an inspection uncovered severe hygiene deficiencies. Inspectors reported finding flies, cobwebs, grease, and dirt in production areas, as well as rusted containers and a lack of mandatory food safety records.

In a separate action, the authority ordered Everest Food Products Private Limited to recall a batch of pre-packed cumin powder. The order followed laboratory testing of a sample collected from Riverside Resorts & Holiday Homes in Goa. The analysis revealed that pesticide residues of Azoxystrobin and Thiamethoxam exceeded permissible limits, leading the food analyst to declare the product unsafe.
