Patagonia Launches $11.2 Million Midterm Voter Turnout Initiative
Patagonia is offering merchandise discounts to customers who help others plan their voting process for the upcoming midterm elections to combat environmental disengagement.
Patagonia launched a corporate activism initiative committing up to $11.2 million to increase voter turnout for the upcoming midterm elections. The program provides $100 merchandise discounts to up to 112,000 customers who enroll three people in a voting plan. Customers may also choose to direct those funds as donations to the League of Conservation Voters.
Developed in collaboration with the nonpartisan Environmental Voter Project, the initiative aims to reach over 300,000 people. The program utilizes a behavioral approach, directing referred individuals to a third-party site to verify their registration and establish a concrete plan for voting. This strategy focuses on changing voter behavior rather than attempting to shift political opinions.
The campaign follows a recent lawsuit filed by the company against President Donald Trump to overturn cuts to the Bears Ears National Monument. Company leadership framed the move as a necessary response to political apathy and what they characterize as an unprecedented government attack on biodiversity, public lands, and the climate.
