Amazon Invests $25 Billion in Mississippi Data Center Expansion

Amazon is investing $25 billion in Mississippi data centers, adding $12 billion to expand operations in Madison and Hinds counties to create over 2,000 jobs.

Governor Tate Reeves announced that Amazon Web Services (AWS) will invest an additional $12 billion in Mississippi, bringing the company's total planned capital investment in the state to $25 billion. The latest funding includes $11 billion for data center expansions in Ridgeland, Madison County, and $1 billion to retrofit a former Delphi Corporation plant in Clinton, Hinds County. These projects, alongside a previously announced $3 billion campus in Vicksburg, are expected to create more than 2,000 skilled jobs.

The expansion is part of a $200 billion global capital expenditure plan for 2026 driven by artificial intelligence infrastructure demand. To manage the environmental impact, AWS committed to water-friendly cooling methods. Construction at the Ridgeland and Canton sites is currently approximately halfway complete.

To address electricity needs, Entergy Mississippi is implementing a $300 million system improvement plan called Superpower Mississippi to reduce power outages by 50% over five years. The utility provider stated that Amazon is covering all incremental electricity costs and transmission upgrades, a move that may save local customers $2 billion on power bills. Governor Reeves described the investment as transformational economic growth, characterizing data centers as the backbone of the digital economy.
